Night Drive

This original artwork, was inspired by the sheer and unfiltered joy that crosses my 3 year old daughters face, when I ask her if she wants to go on a ‘Night Drive’. An ritual reserved for only the most unhinged of parents, on occasion I wait until she is in her jammies, ready for bed, then I whisper to her ‘shall we go on night drive?’. There is no more pure joy in the world than in that moment - her face looking up at me in wonder and excitement to either go to Kmart, or to the supermarket for a late night treat - escaping bedtime for an extra hour.

That unfiltered joy and excitement gave me the inspiration for this piece. Fields of cornflower blue at dusk, excitement in the air as the sky loses it’s last pieces of sunlight, the last pieces of pink and gold creating a special kind of magic. It is on a base of cornflower blue, with shades of pink, orange and golden tones. This piece is highly textured. This is my largest painting to date, and was created during a very stressful time of my life.

To prioritize painting a small piece of this everyday, was a reminder to myself to prioritize joy. I hope this piece finds an owner who needs that reminder too. To break the rules, be silly, prioritize the things that bring them pure, saturated, joy.

This piece is extremely large, and measures at 910mm x 1210mm. It is oil paint on canvas, and comes unframed but with a blue border as this is how I like to hang my pieces. Please let me know if you would like me to organize framing at an additional cost.
